Line Calibration / Optimization

Line optimization

For the best call audio quality and volume levels, your TalkSwitch system parameters must be matched to your telephone lines. The  Line Optimization area offers two calibration methods to match your telephone lines.

The QUICK method finds a match for each phone line from a set of standard values. It provides a good match under typical phone line conditions. This method can be used without taking your TalkSwitch system out of service.

The OPTIMIZED method measures each phone line and creates custom parameters for the closest match. This method requires that your PC be connected on the same LAN as your TalkSwitch unit(s), and requires that your TalkSwitch system be out of service during the optimization process.

Both methods are described in detail in the  Calibrate Lines window.

You should calibrate the lines:

• after adding or changing a telephone line.

• after connecting a line to equipment other than a telephone company line.

• if poor audio performance is encountered.

1. Click Calibrate Lines. The Calibrate Lines window appears.

The calibration status of your system is displayed at the top of the window next to the information icon. You may be informed that:

• one or more of your telephone lines requires calibration.

• your telephone lines have been previously calibrated, but are not optimized.

• your telephone lines have been previously optimized and may not require further matching.

Select one of the calibration methods by clicking one of the radio buttons at left and click Proceed to continue.

QUICK method

A QUICK Calibration window will appear. Use the pull-down menu to select the lines to calibrate, and click  Run Calibration. The software displays progress information throughout the calibration. When Test Complete appears, click Close.

 OPTIMIZED method

You will be prompted to terminate your TalkSwitch configuration session before launching the TalkSwitch Line Optimizer program.

The OPTIMIZED method required that your PC and TalkSwitch unit(s) be on the same LAN.

If Windows provides a security alert when launching the Line Optimizer program, click Ignore or Unblock to proceed.

The TalkSwitch Line Optimizer should launch upon exit of the management software.

You can also launch this program from the start menu: Programs > TalkSwitch 6.12 > Line Optimizer

TalkSwitch Line Optimizer

The TalkSwitch Line Optimizer program automatically discovers TalkSwitch units on the same LAN that your PC is connected to. Use the pull-down menu to select the unit you want to optimize lines for. Click Connect.

You can also enter the IP address of the desired TalkSwitch unit in the IP field in the Explicit Connection area. Specify the Port if necessary. The default port is 9393.

Use the checkboxes to select the line(s) you want to optimize for each unit, and click Calibrate…

You will be prompted to allow a reboot of your TalkSwitch system. Click Yes.

As your TalkSwitch system reboots and proceeds with optimization, the Line Optimizer displays progress information. When the program reports Calibration Finished, you can perform another calibration or exit the Line Optimizer.
