IMPORTANT: Ensure that hunt group 9 or 0 is assigned to the group of telephone lines or VoIP trunks used for calls to emergency services.

A line hunt group is a set of lines that are available for making an outbound call. It can use selected telephone lines, all VoIP lines associated with the TalkSwitch VoIP network, or all VoIP lines associated with a service provider VoIP network.

When placing an outbound call, the user first dials the hunt group number. The TalkSwitch system selects an available line from the group. However the user does not have to dial a hunt group before VoIP numbers 250–299: these automatically use the TalkSwitch VoIP network. Nor does the user have to dial a hunt group before remote extension numbers 210–249: these automatically use the hunt group configured for the remote extension.

You can set the hunt order for telephone lines, but the system automatically determines the hunt order for VoIP lines. 

You can set up nine different hunt groups. If a VoIP-enabled TalkSwitch unit is present, hunt group 88 uses the TalkSwitch VoIP network by default, and the other hunt groups use telephone lines. You can modify these default settings as required. If you are using multiple service provider VoIP networks, set up a hunt group for each service provider. 

A local extension can be restricted to a set of hunt groups, in order to reserve telephone lines for high-priority users, or to control access to VoIP networks. See Hunt group permissions on page 60 of the Talkswitch user guide.

The TalkSwitch unit uses a hunt group when placing a call from a local extension, to a remote extension, or with the call bridge (DISA) feature. The hunt groups do not affect incoming calls.

The TalkSwitch system has the following hunt groups by default. If default settings are used, the system will first search the higher line numbers (e.g. line 4) for outgoing calls, since the lower line numbers are more heavily used for incoming calls. You can modify the default hunt groups as required.

Hunt Group 81 Selects line 1. 
Hunt Group 82 Selects line 2.
Hunt Group 83 Selects line 3.
Hunt Group 84 Selects line 4. 
Hunt Group 85–87 No lines are assigned. Hunt Group 88 If a VoIP-enabled TalkSwitch unit is present,
selects an available VoIP line from those associated with the TalkSwitch VoIP network. If no VoIP-enabled TalkSwitch 
unit is present, no lines are assigned.

The Line Hunt Groups page allows you to set up the name, line type, set of telephone lines hunting order, overflow hunt group and overflow notification for each hunt group.
